If you received unwanted direct messages this morning, one way to mitigate this is by disallowing direct messages from accounts you aren’t following.
Navigate to Preferences, Settings, Notifications, and check the box labelled “Block direct messages from people you don’t follow”

So just a quick rundown of how social media platforms handle bitcoin scammers
đŚTwitter: Hell yeah we love that shit. Heck, we’re owned by a bitcoin scammer!
â Bluesky: look, free speech is free speech. But if you’d like to filter them out we’ll tag it “Finance Advice”
đ Mastodon: GET TAE FACK OUT AND DONNAE LET THE GOOD LORD SEE YAE LEAVIN

Revamped direct messages from Mastodon to no longer send an email. Instead youâll see a â1 direct messageâ link in the Mentions page on the web. Click that to view incoming messages and reply back to Mastodon.
-
Finished the first pass of rethinking how incoming direct messages work in Micro.blog. I still believe that most social networks should not reinvent the wheel with messaging, because itâs unlikely to be as secure as dedicated services like iMessage and WhatsApp. But we roll with what weâve got.

@cublanco Rays and Pirates during this game.

worst one I’ve ever dealt with is IManage. They boast that they are the backbone of like 80% of American law firms, and most big EU/international ones too. So as the critical software I need to do my job, like hundreds or thousands of other blind lawyers, is it accessible? nope. Its literally industry standard. @arush @objectinspace @annaecook @chadloder @paninid @donmelton

@objectinspace @annaecook @chadloder @paninid @donmelton Let's not forget the orgs who magically cannot seem to find anyone who does accessibility work. Looking at you Peloton.

@annaecook @chadloder @paninid @donmelton Does anyone track this? Twitch got rid of their only person a few years ago and never rehired, twitter obviously lost all theirs, now this. This information needs to be more broadly available and companies should be accountable for choosing to deprioritiz needs of disabled people.
-
@chadloder @paninid @donmelton I’ve been watching some people get laid off from organizations that say they care about accessibility for nearly a year now.
Just another round happening today with Shopify.
-
@annaecook @donmelton Along with the trust & safety teams, this is all a giant set of flags
-
I don’t know about y’all, but I think organizations laying off accessibility teams and drivers to be a big warning flag that they don’t actually prioritize accessibility.
And I’m tired of it.

Chasing rainbowsâapparently, the very idea of colorblindness is hard to visualize. Take a shot at looking thru my eyes. https://www.theverge.com/23650428/colorblindness-design-ui-accessibility-wordle #webdesign #design #UIDesign #a11y #color

We’re aware of the spam attack hitting mastodon.social right now and our full moderation and DevOps teams are on the case mitigating any way we can (incl. switching to approval-mode registrations)

@jonty This seems bad. And by bad, I mean this is something that honestly should have been thought through before launch.

Hello Everyone,
This morning we have placed a temporary “limit” on the federation that we have with mastodon.social due to an influx of spam accounts. A “limit” will make posts from accounts at this domain invisible to anyone who isn’t following the posting user.
We are following up with the administrators of mastodon.social. Once more information is available, we will provide a report and make a follow up post on the official @hachyderm account.
Thank you,
The Mod Team
