I would like to pay tribute to all the blind people who tweet about ordering a pizza every week by letting you all know that I got a large two-topping pizza for $6 and some change, including delivery charges and tax. This is the only time I’ll ever post about ordering a pizza.

Very nice, I just saw 3 blind people tweeting about ordering pizza!

I couldn’t help it. I had to screw with all of them.

  4. Ryan Perdue

I so agree, it was worth it.

I spent months accumulating enough points to get a free one, plus a coupon to up it to a large. I rarely order pizza but couldn’t resist that.

probably one more time than I have.

Good price, but why would anyone post about ordering a pizza?

  8. Ray T. Mahorney

for the same reason they would post “I just woke up.” “I just went to the bathroom.”

Honestly not sure blind people have a monopoly on this sort of thing.

  10. Amanda Rush

I don’t know, but people are doing it in droves, so I figured I’d troll all of them.

  11. Amy Billman

We don’t. I think some folks just like to encourage deepening the divide and single out as if it’s a blind people only problem. Follow enough odd people who can see and you see that they post similar. Difference is most of the time they take a pic of the pizza. Lol
And I have the same eye rolling head shaking reaction. Doesn’t matter who posts it. lol
I just figure people are having a slow day and they’re trying to include everyone else in it. ?

This is making me forever grateful that I’m either not following those people or that my limiting social media time is making me miss all that. Maybe both. ?
Now I do admit to posting a lot of recipes and sometimes posting about something I make. But sighted people do that too. And besides, maybe it’ll encourage people to cook or order different stuff. At the very least, I get to make people hungry. ?

  13. Amanda Rush

Yeah but recipes are cool. They provide new stuff to make. I think you should keep posting them, and post more of them.

No, we don’t have a monopoly on this sort of thing, but you bet I’m going to troll when a lot of these same people are publicly bitching that something like Aira should be free because otherwise it deepens the divide between the haves and have-nots in the community.

  15. Chris Swank

Sighted folks just do the same thing in pictures I bet.

  16. Chris Meredith

Wouldn’t it be better to hit the divide between the haves and have nots at its source? Let’s maybe start with a media blitz that shows blind people doing more than posing for non-24 medicine commercials. The haves need to be shown as your average Joe to those that would assume us to be extraordinary, and it needs to be done in a medium that seeps into the subconscious of the people whose attitudes need changing.
aira being free still leaves the have nots as not having. Not sure why people would think (not that I think you think this) that this would solve the divide.

  17. Chris Meredith

Also, how do these people think the Aira agents are to be compensated for their time?

What’s worse is not when they tweet about pizza, it’s when you hear it over the PA system in the middle of the week every week…. So and so your pizza is here…. I’m like wtf some people can order ever week and even on an off week…. lol

  19. Amanda Rush

I completely agree re: showing successful blind people as average joes through mediums like TV. I think you have to watch though that it doesn’t turn into “Meet the Blind” month or day or year. And I’m not sure how they think Aira being free would solve the unemployment problem, or the motivation problem, or any of the other root problems that are causing the disparity. I’m all for social justice and will wear the social justice warrior label proudly. But in order for anything to be true social justice, it needs to be practical so that it can last. Just making everything free isn’t the answer to that.
