Media just will not stop using the term "culture wars." Culture wars may be disputes about spaghetti or burgers for dinner. What the media misnames and often conscously trivializes as supposed "culture wars" are, in fact, the attack on human rights, authoritarianism, and the renewed enforcement of outright discrimination. There is nothing "both sides" about this, and it is not a question of cultural heritage or personal taste.

@rysiek@mstdn.social This also applies to other things: "The only good and just abortion is my (or my daughter's) abortion" "Free speech for those with a printing press (or 90% of the shares of a major newspaper)" "We are a serious news outlet, except when we are sued, and then everything was nothing but entertainment and hyperbole" "Gun bans are evil, except when we could get hurt, and then they are mandatory" And don't get me started on the whole vaccine thing. Hypocrisy, pure & simple.

had a lot of fun hanging out with Peter Thiel last night over wine. we came up with a goofy idea to short Silicon Valley Bank then induce a bank run by telling all of his startups to withdraw at the same time. thankfully it was just a fun thought experiment to prime us for the cocaine we ended up doing. i don't remember the rest of the night, it's probably fine. now, let me take a big sip of this coffee while I check my Bloomberg terminal and get my day started

Funny to see VCs who generally rail against government intervention making the case for a bailout of Silicon Valley Bank now that there's an intervention that would directly help them and their friends. Socialism for me, capitalism for thee. Reminds me a bit of the people I know who went from ardent YIMBY to NIMBY the moment they settled down in a neighborhood and bought a house.
