hey are you working on an #activitypub project, or thinking about #decentralized computing post bird flu? I’d love to chat with you about what you’re up to, how you find working with the spec, and gotchas that might come from annoying, in the trenches work for a potential zine or website resource for folks starting out along the path (and to give me something to write about to motivate my own exploration)

@thock

I am just sitting here slack-jawed at the latest news coming out from Elon Musk’s Twitter, where employees are being forced to sign a “pledge” by the end of the day tomorrow, or else they be let go with 3 months’ severance. This is rapidly becoming a cult.

I think we here on Mastodon should start up a betting pool as to the exact date when Elon Musk actually kills Twitter. I honestly can’t see how the company survives 365 days under these circumstances.

Humble request from a fediverse long-timer: Can we please not do the "boost this tootif" practice? It marries the "like/retweet if" of Twitter and "Copy this to your status" of the Book of Faces and those are two of the worst parts of big social and I would absolutely love it if that doesn't become the new normal around here. Thanks.

A couple years ago, Facebook went HAM on people using their icons/logos etc in plugins on WordPress.org

Looking at Twitter? Yeeeaaaah if you have a plugin that uses Twitter, I would seriously rethink. You can close your own for the most part and honestly I would just shutter anything not super popular. They’re gonna go legally annoying.

A History of Recent Twitter Migration to the Fediverse

1 month ago: Mastodon? No thanks. You have to have a Ph.D in Hackerology to use it.

3 weeks ago: I don’t like this Mastodon… But if I have to… *sigh*

2 weeks ago: Wait. This does really cool things like let me edit posts. So genius. Is this free?

1 week ago: OMG! There’s other apps! Now I know why there’s a Fediverse!

Today: Comrades—let’s fight for our freedom! Cast off the chains of Big Social!
