Kind: Notes

I haven't gotten to spend much time on Mastodon in the last couple weeks so I'm spending some time catching up.

Get in #fedizens we've made it to Friday! We're just waiting on some weekend groceries, which we got early because there's a home game this weekend and that makes everything crazy so we've learned to do anything we'd normally do on Saturday the day before. We're having spaghetti later on and otherwise just winding down a busy week.

Get in #fedizens we're doing Thursday. John's birthday is Tuesday, so I told him he should start celebrating at least the weekend before. And we got a pumpkin roll and some whoopie pies in lieu of a cake. Also this week's heatwave seems to be breaking, it's only supposed to be 82F today.

Get in #fedizens we're doing Tuesday. I hope everyone in the US had some them time to spend on Labor Day yesterday. I spent it ignoring all things people and binge-wa tching stuff. For today it's back to the grind, with some housework thrown in. Maybe a drink later on.

Get in #fedizens we've made it to Friday and we've made it through August. We're just waiting for some groceries to get here and we're going to order pizzas this afternoon for lunch. Also college football starts this weekend so O! H! I! O!

Get in #fedizens we're doing Wednesday. I'm feeling a little more motivated today than I was yesterday, I think I was just tired. I've got most of today's chores done and will probably get my walk in during the 11AM hour.

Get in #fedizens we're doing Tuesday. I don't want to work today I want to spend the day binge-watching TV shows.I got a walk in this morning so at least that was something productive. Otherwise I'm just not motivated at all today.

Get in #fedizens we're doing Monday. We've made it to the last week of August and fall is just around the corner. I hope everyone has a good day today.

Get in #fedizens we're doing Tuesday. I fought WordPress and I won so yay for me. I hope everyone has a good one. I'll be destroying the old box sometime today.

WP Cli is, hands-down, absolutely the best thing to have happened to WordPress. Ever.

It would be really awesome if, when paging through a wxr file, WordPress would print specific errors instead of just "failed to import post".

If you're a WordPress plugin developer, and you add invalid hrefs via JS to your UI, thus making it impossible to click an item while using a keyboard, I hate you so much right now. Learn HTML FFS because honestly having to try to hack around problems exacerbated by inaccessibility is getting fucking old. No love: me.

In completely unrelated news, this series John and I are reading has been good for the most part, but I think we're to the point where the author is starting to get lazy with both his characters, (specifically the villains), and now his plotlines. #bookstodon

All right so I'll need to do some cowboy coding on the old box, but I'll save that for later I think because it isn't true cowboy coding unless there are drinks involved, and honestly at this point the worst that can happen is I do not achieve a successful migration. Which is where we're at now anyway so I'll just pour myself a drink later on and do this.

Right about now I'm incredibly glad I keep a code stash, because I just found a snippet that will let me export posts according to taxonomy, custom or otherwise.

OK. I will need to come up with plan I've lost count, but for now at least I have backups of everything that I can hopefully eventually restore. I think I still need to install Composer on the new box, and WPCli has saved at least some of it.

This site migration is not going well, 0 stars, do not recommend, mostly because php keeps choking on the WordPress import file. I think I've given php as much memory as can safely be afforded. Oh well I'll keep fiddling with it.
