for the last year or more above me in the mornings i hear what seems to be someone coming into a room and then a ball being dropped at a low height.

the sound of a ball bouncing several times in lessening heights is unmistakeable and its like totally perplexed me what was going on.

a whole year

Mastodon may not be perfect, but it sure has gotten pretty awesome lately. This week the community boosted a discourse on the tautological placename etymology “Torpenhow Hill”, which actually translates to “hill, hill, hill, hill”, and a one billion year time lapse animation of two galaxies colliding. We registered our collective outrage at CNN, featured amazing artwork and photography, and recognized scientist Grace Hopper, inventor of the first compiler. What’s not to love!

My husband just read me a story that showed up in his feed that went something like this: A teacher asked her class who liked Trump. The children knew she liked Trump, so they all raised their hands, except one student. Teacher: “Why don’t you like Trump?” Student: “I am a Democrat.” Teacher: “Why?” Student: “Because my mom is a Democrat and my Dad is a Democrat.” Teacher: "What would you do if your mom was stupid and your dad was mean?” Student: “I would be a Trump supporter.” 😂

Especially if you’ve been subscribed to the Patreon for Low Quality Facts, let it be publicly known that they have been selling all of their “facts” as NFTs on opensea for Etherium since August 2021. Their account been suspended from mstdn.social today for this crypto scheme and, last I checked, they had a lot of followers around here.

I’ve been working with a Signal developer to improve the #accessibility of the desktop app, and I think it’s getting to a usable state (at least on Windows). There are sounds for chats in the current window now, and messages are list items (and also articles) so they can be reached easily. There are also a few keyboard shortcuts to jump to the oldest unread message, jump to the composer, and navigate to various sections of the app. I’ll be addressing some of the remaining issues, such as the chatty conversation windows and the fact you can tab to every single message in the history. If anyone has feedback on #screenreader accessibility of the current beta, I can pass it along. I haven’t tested it on MacOS or Linux yet. The beta is here: https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007318471-Signal-Beta
