And yes, a lot of them went to Bluesky and Threads. Which is frankly a good thing, Mastodon is bad enough on its own and getting worse.

We tried that. It was the early days of Mastodon before the great Twitter migration.

Your situation sounds like you're managing a team, and I'd say that has some different components. I think the general rule still applies though, and part of uncovering things is charging what you're worth and not offering discounts. Especially now. Because the client who tells you something to the effect of "I could code this much cheaper with ChatGPT" is telling on themselves.

Yeah. That dev is incorrect and should not be telling a junior dev *any* of that. Setting them up for failure in future.

And as long as you're up front about that for this project what you're looking for is someone to do the work you don't have time for, there's no problem. What I'm talking about is the client who wants the expert because they're thinking "my thing is awesome and so it deserves the best", only to then turn around and want to be the expert and treat the expert they've hired as the code monkey. What I'm saying is you need to, as the developer or designer who cares about the end-user, learn to spot that quickly because those are projects you don't want to get involved in.

This is me, except with hoods and umbrellas. They *really* impact my hearing and other related things, and thus my travel ability, which then puts me in the position to have to deal with extra people I probably don't want to deal with.

Ug I hope you're able to get them to get you your pay quickly. That's the absolute worst part of independent contracting.
