I got lucky and I don't have a ton of customization going on. If I were someone in that position I would absolutely be livid that my settings didn't port properly.

@remixman Oh this is government. Employment and academia can varry widely.

@remixman If we ever get to a point where the U.S. government is going to use NVDA, it'll likely be similar to how other open source projects are used, like Drupal or WordPress. And in those situations, stuff from the official repos is not allowed. Any code is provided by the agency contracted to do the work implementing for relevant parts of the government, and there will always be parts like DOD where this is just not happening.

@remixman It washes because the individuals and companies permitted to write scripts for government agencies are vetted. NVDA add-on authors aren't yet.

It eventually resolved itself, but that was a huge chunk of wasted time.

@remixman I love free software, but I completely understand why governments aren't just letting users install NVDA on their networks. Even if NVDA itself is fine, add-ons are a hot mess and no government IT shop worth its salt would trust them.

I use NVDA too, and I love it. But i use Jaws pretty heavily so I need to keep it up to date.
