@sickmatter Yeah maybe he should. But since when have voters done the right thing. A sizeable number of them can't be convinced that preserving democracy overrides their getting a pony, and another sizeable number is attempting to ram their religion down our throats and wants to make it legal for their nutcases to skip vaccines. And I haven't even gotten to things that would make other people's lives marginally better, like an actually enforceable and enforced ADA for example.

@sickmatter There are a whole lot of criteria that strictly speaking prevent people from voting for whoever they want to. Like age restrictions on the lower end for some positions, whether or not someone was born in the US, ETC. According to your logic, we should just have no limits on anything at all in order to preserve voter choice, and that would create all sorts of problems.

@sickmatter Experience is good. But this thing where we essentially have people like Dick D who are refusing to learn how technology works so they'll quit trying to do things like ban encryption is a problem. Experience doesn't do a bit of good when it prevents you from keeping up. Also, we have a voting population that has convinced itself that electing people who refuse to learn anything is a good thing and I don't see this changing anytime soon.

Mordechai and Schumer: A tale of two court Jews by Rabbi Pesach Wolicki

Schumer opened his speech by declaring his Jewish bonafides, referencing his family’s losses in the Holocaust and declaring himself a “shomer Yisrael, a guardian of Israel.”
