We ended up caving and turning on the air conditioners. It got too hot and humid in here. So far everything’s behaving, but we’re going to trade time between the units just to be safe, (I.E., bedroom one on at night and living room one off, and vice versa during t he day), and see if that works out better. Unless by some miracle the rest of July and August somehow turn out not to be 182,000 degrees for some reason. Yay climate change I guess.

Get in fedizens, we’ve made it to Friday.

Yesterday ended up turning out to be somewhat busy for us. It’s been so hot and humid here that the window air conditioners have been having trouble keeping up. The living room one’s been fine, but the bedroom one froze up and consequently started leaking. Which made a huge mess, Which I had to clean up. And we’re going to need to figure out how to get a comforter plus another large blanket rewashed, because they were in range, and the laundry service we pay for because this building’s so old that getting to the laundry room downstairs is essentially inaccessible, to say nothing of no labels or anything like that on the washers and dryers, yeah the whole thing’s just inaccessible, and since Joe doesn’t work here anymore we don’t get any accommodations. So anyway we need to figure out how to deal with that.

So for right now the air conditioners are turned off, and we have some fans on because it’s only going to be 81F/27.22C here today, so we’re going to duke it out with the humidity and brave airing the place out. I’m hoping we’ll get less smoke, because even though the air quality has been good for the last few days it still smells really smoky here and we have humidity like Florida.

Welcome to summer I guess.

We get Rays versus Braves for three games this weekend, so fuck yeah baseball!

And I’m hoping next week will be better.

Gonna go hang up some towels now.

Get in fedizens, we’re doing Wednesday. And I haven’t done one of these in a little while.

First, welcome to all the new people checking out the fediverse by way of Mastodon and of course Lemmy and KBin, along with all the other projects that make up the fediverse. I know a lot of you are coming from Twitter once again, and while I think you and the communities you’ve built deserve way more than death by a thousand fuck-ups, I think you will be able to make a home here.

Second, I’m glad the Fourth is over. The fireworks have been going on here since over the weekend, and really, people who insist on setting them off for days seriously annoy me at this point. I mean hell, we’ve had absolute shit air quality here and you want to fucking add to it because muh freeeeeedom!? To say nothing of all the damn noise. Also you probably spent two-weeks’ salary on them and in less than 5 seconds you’ll be complaining about how expensive gas or groceries are.

Maybe some baseball later on today, and also, it’s hot out there Mr. Bigglesworth. Air quality seems to have calmed down though so there’s that.

Get in fedizens, we’re doing Monday.

I have no idea what today has in store for any of us, but with the right amount of snark and memes and puppy pictures, we’ll have Monday conquered. Oh and hilarious audio. Don’t forget that.

I still can’t get over how much more enjoyable a lot of the image content is since it’s got alt text. I don’t think I’ll ever get to a point where I’ll take that for granted. In fact, I think that’s one of the things I’m looking forward to the least with Meta’s Project 92. It’s going to bring over a whole bunch of users who won’t be adding alt text to their images, to say nothing of the moderation disaster I suspect it’ll be given Meta’s record. This is part of why instances/servers who decide to pre-emptively block P92 when it does federate will get zero pushback from me. I don’t think Meta deserves any benefit of the doubt.

I think it’s supposed to rain again today, so we’ll see about getting some time outside. My sleep schedule is still fucked, but I’m going to try to stay up a little later today. I made it until 5PM yesterday. Hopefully I can sleep more than six hours tonight because I didn’t sleep that well last night, which was why I woke up around 1AM this morning.

No sportsball update in this post, I still have to check scores, but maybe one later with those updates.

Get in fedizens, somehow we’ve wandered into Monday and we’re all gonna need to work together to get to the other side of it in one piece.

First, my sleep schedule is absolutely fucked, and I’m trying to get it back on track, mostly because work and the rest of society expect me to be up during the day and sleeping during the night, and just not conforming really isn’t an option.

Second, shoutout to everyone who is dealing with the Reddit migration. I’m pretty sure the Lemmy and Kbin server admins are absolutely swomped, as are the developers of said software, and if you’re trying to make the switch, show them a little flexibility and patience. Nobody was expecting Reddit to implode like this or so quickly.

In sportsball news, my Vegas Golden Knights are 3 to 1 in the finals, and next game is tomorrow night. I can’t wait to watch it.

Get in fedizens, we’re doing Friday! We actually made it!

I mean, OK the northern U.S. is currently experiencing the fall-out from the Canadian wildfires, and since this includes where I’m at in PA there has been no outside time since Wednesday morning and we’re keeping everything closed up. And of course I’m keeping everyone in Canada who’s getting the brunt of all this in my thoughts. And in sportsball news the Florida Kittens actually won last night’s game in overtime.

But still, it’s Friday!

I haven’t done one of these in a little while, so, morning fedizens, we’re doing Tuesday.

I’m catching up on WWDC stuff, which I swore I wasn’t going to pay attention to but honestly I’m cautiously excited about Apple’s coming new augmented reality headset.

Specifically, I’m excited that one of these things will likely have some sort of working relationship with VoiceOver, which means blind people can participate to at least some extent in augmented reality. Next, all I can think of is that I will be able to have SeeingAI in a headset, which means I would get to use all its cool features. It’s not sight exactly, but for me, this kind of crystalizes the idea of being able to use technology to provide some sort of sense of what has always been a very visual world which, quite frankly, I’m sick to death of hacking in order to get things done or live my life.

And yes, I’m very much aware of all of the pitfalls and problems surrounding all this stuff. I’m also aware that this could become just as much of a disappointment as self-driving cars have been.

In sportsball news, woot woot woot! My Vegas Golden Knights won game two last night, thus banishing the Florida Kittens back to their basket with no milk!

Afternoon fedizens, we’re doing Monday.

It’s in the mid 80’sF here, so we’re staying inside with the air conditioner. I still have to call Digital Ocean about the Fail2ban issue, but I’ll get that done later this evening. Oh and we’re keeping up with the baseball game. Otherwise, not much, although we are rereading the Quinn Colson books, and I have a question.

Most of the characters in this series are on the low end of the income spectrum. And yet, they all somehow manage to have cowboy boots. Which are expensive. So, I’d like to know how they managed to end up with them.

Current status: Trying to figure out why I can’t ssh into this droplet, and can’t log in via SFTP either. Just getting connection timed out, no prompt. Why can’t things just work today? I’ve already power cycled FFS.

I can’t remember who it was that was asking on the fediverse about parcing likes from Twitter in some sort of a useable format with dates, but I am here to tell whoever it was that the reason we can’t do this is because Twitter does not include so much as a unix timestamp in the like.js file contained in your archive, which is also why we can’t sort from oldest to newest in the HTML renderer. All you get is the text and expanded archive.

Welp so much for that project.

I was today years old when I realized you can press ctrl+shift+tab to move through open browser tabs in reverse order. I got desperate so I tried it.

Also, I’m drinking out of my WordPress mug today in order to celebrate WordPress’s twentieth anniversary because I’m grateful for everything WordPress the software, but especially WordPress the community, has given me over the last fifteen years. Happy birthday WordPress, and may we celebrate at least twenty more together!

There’s a special place in whatever hell may or may not exist for WordPress plugin authors whose upgrade link is definitely in the tab order, but whose update/save settings button is an invalid hypertext reference that can’t be clicked using a keyboard no matter how you slice it and is definitely not in the tab order at all.

Afternoon fedizens, we’re doing sunday. I hope all of you are having a good one.

I slept last night, but not very well, so I’m tired today. On the other hand, it’s supposed to get to 75F today, so that’ll be nice.

We have lots of sportsball today. My Braves play in a little over an hour, the Rays start ten minutes later, and my Vegas Golden Knights start at 1500. We haven’t decided yet if we’re just going to keep the book going, or listen to one or more games.

Speaking of books, John and I have been rereading some of the Virgil Flowers and Lucas Davenport books. Those have established spots on our rereads list, and we’ve been enjoying randomly picking a book and rereading that.

I really need to spend some time putting together a "subscribe" page for my site. Every post kind has its own feed, and while some of the kinds are quite busy, others might be worth subscribing to in your favorite reader in case you don’t want to join the fediverse or something like that.

Afternoon fedizens, we’ve made it to Friday, and we’re a good chunk of the way through it on top of that.

Not much has gone right today. I’ll have to find a way to get in touch with a human at Audible because somehow my Audible account is no longer merged with my Amazon account, and when I attempt to re-merge, I can’t complete the second step. So as a result, Audible thinks I’m not a member, although I can see my library if I log into Audible with my username instead of my email address.

I found out all this when I was attempting to pre-order the new Stone Barrington book that’s due to arrive on 6 June, and the new book from John Grisham which will be a sequel to The Firm coming out on 17 October. So hopefully I’ll get this sorted.

I’m definitely going to make time for a drink later on this evening since today’s been such a not good one.

In sportsball news, my Vegas Golden Knights play game one of t he conference finals tonight, the Florida Panthers won last night’s game in quadrupal overtime with a score of 3 to 2, and both the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves play baseball tonight.

Oh, and the weather’s great again so we have the windows open.

What’s good fedizens, we’re doing Thursday, which is one day closer to Friday.

I got a late start again today. I really need to quit doing that, mostly because I feel guilty for sleeping in so damn late. I’ll make sure to set an alarm for tomorrow. Or maybe I should work on less guilt over it. I’m not sure.

John and I ended up ordering lunch from Wendy’s today, and will probably at least cook the chicken that’s in the fridge later on.

We’re keeping up with the baseball scores, but because I have stuff to do, we’ve just left the book on.

Afternoon fedizens, we’re doing Wednesday.

I didn’t sleep well last night, so despite having a bunch of stuff to do today, it still hasn’t gotten done because I spent the morning being lazy and I’m still tired. I have a feeling this is the beginning of my sleep schedule going through another round of fuckery.

Coffee has been consumed as of a few minutes ago, and I’m trying t o figure out lunch.

I’m not sure I’ll be listening to any baseball tonight.
