Good Tuesday everyone! WBH Volume 1 Issue 18 is here, and it’s jam packed. First, we have a featured perspective from Itto Outini on the value of personal networking and how personal networking is indispensible when it comes to universal/inclusive design. https://www.worldblindherald.com/humanity-humility-how-i-learned-the-value-of-in-person-networking-and-why-its-indispensable-for-universal-design/

Māori-language punk band Half/Time will appear on the same bill as the Welsh-language post-punk band Adwaith this week at the Focus #Wales festival in Wrexham.
While the two cultures developed on opposite sides of the world, both are subject to colonial rule and have felt the pain of having their languages suppressed. The festival arrives amidst a surge of interest in both countries in learning their languages.

Hey all, I’ve noticed that our beta test of post imports has resulted in old posts flooding timelines.
Sometimes these beta tests work without a hitch. But other times, we make new discoveries. I really want this feature to be available to everyone, but I acknowledge there’s been hiccups.
So I have a request. If you want to import your posts, please ask permission from @admin@calckey.social first.
Once we know you want to import, we will mute your feed for one hour — allowing you to post without disturbing your fellow calckey.social friends.
I appreciate your co-operation with this as we fine tune this fantastic new feature.

Yet another PSA: Please, please check a project’s issue tracker before filing an issue. We don’t need 10 duplicates of the same issue. There’s a reason you’re asked to check for duplicates before filing an issue. Pass it on. :boost_ok:

If the STOP CSAM Act passes, just providing an encrypted app could lead to prosecutions and lawsuits.

Excellent post on David Tisserand and the accessibility journey he took Ubisoft on:

Congress is trying to outlaw end-to-end encryption again and it’s time to take action. Tell your rep. to vote against the STOP CSAM Act.

Down there – he said – are people who will follow any dragon, worship any god, ignore any inequity. All out of a kind of humdrum, everyday badness. Not the really high, creative loathsomeness of the great sinners, but a sort of mass-produced darkness of the soul. Sin, you might say, without a trace of originality. They accept evil not because they say yes, but because they don’t say no.

Did you know that if you change the `dl=0` at the end of a dropbox link to `dl=1` it’ll just automatically download instead of taking you to that dumb webpage that plays videos terribly?
You did? Great.
DID YOU ALSO KNOW THAT IF YOU CHANGE IT TO `raw=1` IT WILL LOAD THE ACTUAL FILE IN THE BROWSER WINDOW WTF HOW DID I JUST FIND THIS

@SingingNala @objectinspace @changeling And yeah, we have to tell people sometimes that, based on either budgetary constraints or staffing resources, this thing you want can't be done. Now if you want this to go way over budget, sure we'll gladly create you a custom accessible thingy that does exactly what you want it to do.

@SingingNala @objectinspace @changeling My accessibility brain is always pinging.

@objectinspace @changeling @SingingNala I totally get trying to find ways to solve a problem, what I'm objecting to is the demand for features, especially expensive ones, without any consideration of why they might not have been done. It's the it's-so-easy-why-hasn't-this-been-done-yet from people who have no idea about how any of this works that burns me.

@objectinspace @changeling @SingingNala Yeah the privacy stuff to. And you have to know what the obstacles are so you can work around them, either with lots of money to pay for servers and people to do the work, or possibly really idealistic software contributors who you can hopefully convince to take on a huge task like that for a very long time with no compensation.
