From the inbox: "Enjoy new on-board entertainment on Greyhound!" Me: Given the kind of passengers Greyhound attracts, I assumed we already had that.

This is my first post from the new mechanical keyboard. I’ll have to get used to typing on a truly full keyboard again, but so far this is fun. It’s my second birthday present from John, and he has a matching one. So it’ll be clacky clacky clacky all throughout the apartment.

I’ve added an "on-this-day" feature to my site. I’ve been publishing for a long time, and this is becoming a place for all my data, so I thought it might be interesting to look back at past posts for a given day instead of just the usual WordPress archives.

I’ve also added a "now" feature, which is just a link to the full blog archive.

I don’t want to have posts displaying on my front page, since things are cleaner that way, but there should be an easy way for people to get to an archive of all content along with everything else without having to remember an address and manually typing that in the address bar.

I need to add some subscription links to the menu as well.

We have mechanical keyboards coming on Monday. I’m glad for this. Both of us spend tons of time typing, and a mechanical keyboard will make typing a ton easier.

My birthday was a lot of fun. Lots of good food and drink was had.

We went to Texas Road House, and I had a 16-oz ribbeye along with a huge mound of mashed potatoes covered with cheese, butter and sour cream, some yeast roles and a huge salad. We also tried all the desserts. Afterwards we jumped on Facetime with Wil and Denise and drank beers with them, which was a lot of fun.

I’d like to thank everyone for writing on my timeline for my birthday. It means a lot.

Birthday celebrations have started early. I’m drinking Baileys Irish cream in my coffee, and I was generous with it. And it’s the real kind.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to unify the various timelines I follow, mostly Mastodon (minus the accounts who merely syndicate their Twitter, which means all their retweets, and Micro.blog). I may pull in some stuff from Twitter but I’ll be very very selective in which things I pull over.

Anyway, this isn’t working out the way I’d hoped.

I may see about using Togethr to do it, along with adding some code to my functions.php file to make both Mastodon and Micro.blog links clickable.

I have Bridgy Fed set up (I think properly), so replies, reposts ETC. should work properly.

I’ve found I have plenty of people to interact with on Micro.blog and Mastodon, but Twitter at this point and especially Facebook are pretty much a chore that I’m less and less inclined to tend to.

I log into Facebook from time to time to post something to the business page or respond to messages and that’s it.

True love is your boyfriend spotting that you made a mistake when typing HTML and helpfully correcting it for you.

Every nerd needs a person like this in his or her life.

This is a longer post because we’re expecting our first snow storm of the winter, (rumor has it that we’ll see somewhere around twelve inches), we made chili in the crockpot yesterday and I got to play with sharp objects, and, as an early birthday present, I got a pair of Bose QC35s and I absolutely love them.

First, the snow storm.

We’ve been lucky so far this winter, and haven’t gotten too much snow, maybe three inches at a time at most, and for the most part it hasn’t stuck.

This weekend is supposed to be different, and I hope to get some pictures, and yes, build my oft-promised snowman.

As mentioned above we made chili yesterday, and I got to play with sharp objects, otherwise known as using our brand-new huge knife to cut up the chicken before cooking.

We invested in a new set of knives along with a cutting board late last year, and I got to use it for the first time yesterday since we’ve started putting the crockpot to some serious work since the first of this year.

And it was awesome.

I’ve never had an easier time cutting up raw meat, and the resultant chili turned out amazingly.

Next is homemade chicken alfredo with the chicken being either marinated in Italian dressing or just baked in it. I haven’t decided which yet.

I should post all these recipes.

And now, time for a mini review of my early birthday present.

John got me a pair of Bose qC35 II Wireless Quiet Comfort Noise Canceling headphones, and they arrived yesterday.

I love them.

They came with a sixty percent charge, so I’ve been putting them through their paces. The noise canceling is lovely, and they’re now replacing the old headphones I used for the computer since they’re much more comfortable.

I still haven’t ran down the battery yet. I’ll need to work on that.

I’m trying to run them down because I want to see how long it takes to charge them and then how long I can use them before they need to be recharged.

I love these things and will get a metric ton of use out of them.

I logged into my personal Twitter to see what’s going on with the people I haven’t managed to convert to Micro.blog users yet, and upon scrolling through one list, my first response is "What the fuck is happening?"

Apparently something went down and I’m thinking it might be best to steer clear of this particular trashfire.

And I need to spend some more time crafting some stuff for Facebook and Twitter to promote MB, because there are people I’d miss from these platforms if I actually manage to leave.

Leaving though becomes more and more desirable every time I log in to any of them, Facebook especially.

Welcome to 2020 everybody, we made it.

It’s snowing here and fireworks are going off at the stadium.

We have a peanutbutter pie that we never managed to get into so we’re having it for breakfast tomorrow.

Both of us are tired so I don’t have any clever message this year, and we’ll be in bed in the next fifteen minutes.

Happy New Year everybody.

One of my goals for the upcoming secular year is to start playing more with iOS shortcuts. Specifically, I want to learn how to create them as well as how to install shortcuts by third parties.

There are a lot floating around for various Indieweb tasks and workflows and it would be really cool to automate some things while posting from my phone.

I expect this will have the side benefit of posting more from my phone.

I have photos in mind for this more than anything else, but would also like to start playing with alternative implementations of bookmarking services.

One of the best parts of doing a manual Facebook content migration is going through and remembering occasions which consequently sparked posts.

I’ve just come across one that I’m about to migrate that references my nepphew turning up my work phone as part of a weekend visit.

My nepphew is now on the edge of becoming a teenager. God, I feel old.

And I promise I won’t embarrass him later in life by pointing at these posts, because if he’s going to learn that the internet never forgets, it won’t be from his aunt.

I still can’t get Ditchbook to run properly on Windows, so I’ve started manually importing my content from Facebook.

I don’t really mind because it’s far from the only manual import I need to do, plus I have the time off to do it, and it’ll be a nice exercise in deciding what to keep and what not to keep.

I need to find something that’ll let me read the location data and such on Windows for the photo import parts, but it’ll be interesting to map locations to photos and other past content.

I’ve still got to start on the stuff from Goodreads and Foursquare/Swarm.

We did some grocery shopping and got some treats for this week and we’re planning to do more on Tuesday, along with getting some Chinese to eat while everyone else is eating traditional Christmas dinner on Wednesday.

And as usual we’re reading books. I’m up to one hundred and eighty for this year and we still have ten days left to go.

Wow. Our local schools are having their first two-hour delay for this winter.

I know in North Carolina it only takes an inch or less for that to happen and I suspect it takes more up here to get a two-hour delay, but we have freezing rain and I think ice on the roads.

I’m told that January and February are actually the worst for this kind of weather.

We had some snow yesterday but not enough for me to build the snowman I’m promising.
