Hey blind hive mind. Does anyone have any tips and tricks for pairing an apple watch while blind? I've tried holding the watch to the camera with no luck and when I try to use Seeing AI to get the 6-digit code after choosing the watch name, which I can get, I'm having no luck before the process times out. Reasonable light, but not ideal Not sure if that's part of the problem. Pairing with iPhone SE 2022, iOS 17 latest build. Thanks in advance.
@acarson I’ve always done the “enter manually” thing. Never could get it to work otherwise. Voiceover talks at the point where it can read you it’s code to put into the phone.
@acarson You should be able to just pair manually. The watch will show the code, and you can enter it on your phone… or it’s the other way round. But either way, remember you can activate VoiceOver on the watch by triple-clicking the crown.
@BorrisInABox How do I get VO turned on on the watch without the app? I tried holding the crown while I was in the mode to pair automatically but no dice. Do I need to do that once I tell the phone to pair manually?
@acarson @BorrisInABox triple click as you would with home button.
@sclower Oh. Tripple-click the crown. Thanks tons!
@acarson You can just triple tap the crown as soon as the watch turns on.
@BorrisInABox OK. So I had the wrong gesture thingy. Thanks a ton.
@acarson normally I’ve just used the 6-digit code myself – rarely I have gotten the camera thing to work, but it takes reasonable light and a flat surface, and since the screen is small you have a very tiny area to adjust it, too. I think I had to click “pair manually” on both the watch / app, but VoiceOver should auto-read the code when it appears now, so you should hear it right away and hopefully get it before timing out. A bit ironic to me that the manual pairing has that though
@acarson Can you not pair it manually?
@acarson I honestly had help while at the AT&T store. I couldn’t figure it out either.
@acarson VoiceOver doesn’t read the code? I feel like I just set up a watch successfully this way.
@acarson trying to remember how I did my watch years ago.
