Dear websites: Stop asking me to sign in with Google, especially when I have no reason to sign into your site. I thought we already learned our lesson on centralized authentication and it was supposed to be "Don't outsource authentication unless you have no other choice". I guess I should interpret the ubiquity of Google sign-in as confirmation that we as a society have learned absolutely nothing from the various centralization of authentication failures we've experienced over the last decade.
No love,
Me
@acarson I agree. Sign-in with blahblahblah, most ubickwitously Google, needs to die ten years ago. Fortunately, hitting escape clears these annoying popups, so although annoying, one does not need to nav to the close button, wherever that may appear in the dialog, top or bottom.
@adam Yes escape works sometimes, but still.
@acarson I could’ve sworn I turned that setting off in my account but I still get them as well. Bloody annoying.
@KaraLG84 Yeah I thought I had turned that off too, in both accounts, but it seems to be another one of those things Google just ignores. Like our preference for adblockers.
@arush raising my voice in agreement on that request.
@acarson @Tamasg Good the escape key works! 🙂
