(Sigh) I hate this timeline.
Chuck Schumer and other politicians in the US should not be attempting to interfere in Israeli politics by making public pronouncements about how Netanyahu is unfit and should resign.
At the same time, Tom Cotton is a performative virtue signaling little shit who doesn't give a damn about antisemitism and has no business throwing the label around so he can score political points. He can yell "Antisemite!" when he starts dealing with Maga's very own antisemitism problem, which Republican party leadership is still refusing to deal with even after October 7.
And before anyone tries coming into my mentions with "But leftwing antisemitism is worse!" I do not care whose antisemitism problem is worse at this point either fix your own team's problem or shut the hell up because I'm done tolerating it no matter where it comes from.
@acarson It’s not “interfering in Israeli politics” to publicly express a political position
It has no material effect on Israeli politics for him to have and state an opinion. And if it does, Israelis have agency and are allowed to listen to whoever they want.
@acarson The claim that he’s “interfering in Israeli politics” is ludicrous
By that standard, Bibi has interfered in American politics repeatedly over the years
@dikleyt He’s not just a citizen he’s a member of congress. This would be the same as if Keneset members or other members of Israel’s government are making public comments about who should be president of the US.
@acarson Bibi does that all the time
@dikleyt He has. And he shouldn’t do it. But just because Bibi’s done it doesn’t mean the US should continue to return the favor.
@acarson When a foreign politician has repeatedly made statements and done other things to benefit your opposition, he’s fair game
@dikleyt I think you’re missing the point, which is that neither should be interfering in each other’s elections, and “But the other guy does it” isn’t an acceptable excuse.
@acarson When the person you’re doing it to is “the other guy” in question, it is an acceptable excuse. They’re the ones who escalated things. All you have to do is compete.
But it’s not like anyone thinks his statement is going to change Israeli politics, other than give Israelis more of a victim complex
@dikleyt OK agreeing to disagree.
