@Sunspot @MariaHill I genuinely do not understand how anyone can say with a straight face that if Trump is re-elected will cause some sort of revolution let alone for good. Did they just sleep through the last decade or somet hing?

It’s accelerationist thinking that fails time and time again
@TonyStark @acarson @raf @Sunspot @MariaHill Have these people ever heard of the slogan “Nach Hitler, uns” [After Hitler, us]? It was a rallying cry of the German communists in the 1930s who were convinced that it would be better for their political prospects if Hitler won than if the loathed social democrats were victorious. What would usher in a revolution faster than the experience of fascism? They calculated wrong. Autocrats don’t give up power. We don’t need to repeat this fateful mistake.
@TonyStark @acarson @raf @Sunspot @MariaHill This is one of the few lessons I’ve learned from history but it’s imprinted on my soul. You don’t wish for things to get worse so the can then get better. There’s always something worse than what you think of as the nadir of human affairs.
I’m reconciled to the fact that in every election for years to come it’s going to feel like democracy is on the ballot and that we’ll have to go all in to defend it. It’s 2024. Time to get cracking again.

Are you sure about the title, the period and the source?
@tobie1 @TonyStark @acarson @Sunspot @MariaHill
Advocating that things be worse in the hope that it will motivate people is literally “the beatings will continue until morale improves” logic. Nevermind, people with time and flexibility since they aren’t working 60-80 workweeks are precisely the people best equipped to protest and fight
@tobie1 @TonyStark @acarson @Sunspot @MariaHill
Call me näive but I think it’s better to advocate for political outcomes you actually prefer and set you up for bigger and better outcomes down the line
@OeconomicusRatio @TonyStark @acarson @raf @Sunspot @MariaHill It was a slogan of the German Communist Party in 1933. The book you refer to comes later…though the fact that someone would want to reprise it is surprising.

Well, I have never heard a slogan „Nach Hitler, uns!“. Not ignoring the fact that this is bad German grammar (it should read „Nach Hitler, wir!“ to be correct) I think the construct „uns“ instead of „wir“ indicates that the source of this phrase is an English speaking person who mistranslated the English „us“ for „uns“. Not a 1933 German communist.
@tobie1 @TonyStark @acarson @raf @Sunspot @MariaHill Amen to that!
@OeconomicusRatio Agree on the grammar. You’d think it would be shorthand for a phrase like, Nach H sind wir daran, but maybe it’s shorthand for something else like, Nach H gehoert der Staat uns. I would need to do more research.
@TonyStark @Sunspot @tobie1 @raf @acarson Anyone who thinks Bernie is smashing the state needs to watch the the clip of Bernie, the chair of the HELP Committee, shouting “you’re a United States Senator” at Markwayne Mullin.
@acarson @TonyStark @Sunspot I truly hope the article I read about young voters teaching Democrats a lesson by allowing others to elect a Republican and saying it won’t be the end of the world are in a minority too tiny to have a real effect, as I am old enough to have pulled an actual lever for Al Gore and remember the month of the counting of hanging chads while we waited for SCOTUS to decide Florida for GWB. Everyone old enough to vote now lived through the 2016 election to January 20, 2021.
