The fallen hostages, according to reports, were waving a white cloth and yelling in Hebrew, and a photograph from the area shows a wall graffitied in Hebrew with the message “Help, 3 hostages.”

Supporters of Israel who were furious after the Oct. 7 attack are also questioning the aims of a military campaign that is costing Israel global support.

Synagogues in at least 17 states plus Washington, D.C., were affected, according to local media reports.
