So I think John and I are going to just spend tonight doing what we usually do: Reading books. And if we're up at midnight then we're up at midnight, but if we're not, we'll a t least pat ourselves on the back and encourage everyone to do the same because we made it through 2023 you guys.
@acarson Our “ball drop” is when we decide to go to bed. We wish each other a happy new year and then zzzzzz. Happy New Year!
@acarson Sounds like a good plan to me. After Tony goes home, I plan to read like I do most evenings. I like bringing in the new year that way.
@acarson Sounds good. I won’t be up, unless my body decides to keep me up, but my plan is to bring in the new year sleeping.
@sapphireangel @acarson I’ll probably bring in the new year with a book, too. I’m boring, I guess.
@remixman @sapphireangel That makes at least four of us.
@acarson @sapphireangel What do you use to read books, your phone? I have an old aPH Book Port and sometimes I use that. I love Doubletalk.
@remixman @sapphireangel I use my phone, but lately have been really wishing I had a discrete reading device again. Having books not attached to your phone has its advantages, but also disadvantages.
@acarson @sapphireangel Yeah, it can be fun to use. I’ll just convert EPUB books to plaintext and send ’em off to the Book Port. Very crude, but it does the job for novels and shit.
@acarson @remixman @sapphireangel I really miss my book courier. I have a rockbox-based MP3 player I use now though
@acarson @remixman Not boring.
@cachondo @acarson I would kill for a software Doubletalk. It’ll never happen, but I can dream. LOL.
@cachondo @acarson @remixman I just use my phone, and I’m okay with that.
@sapphireangel @acarson @remixman There’s something satisfying about having a separate device to read on, away from the notifications, reliance on a touch screen, etc. It cost me about £40 for the player. I could never justify the price of a Stream or sense, any of those sorts of things.
@cachondo @sapphireangel @acarson Indeed. Those devices really are quite expensive.
@cachondo @acarson @remixman See I just start the book on my phone and lock the screen. I have it set so when I wear my watch it vibrates but my phone stays silent. Perfect for me especially since I do a lot of work calls/meetings.
@sapphireangel @cachondo @remixman This is what I do. I just have to remember to put my phone on “do not disturb” when I’m reading in bed lol.
@acarson I don’t know if I will be up either. i will probibly read an HP fan fic. I won’t turn on anything to listen to a cound down or anything like that. hell I haven’t done that in several years anyway.
