I should probably post this here too for good measure, since I think this is very, very important.

We’re all happy that we finally have AI to help us describe images, but please, please keep in mind that this tech is the same tech that can’t tell you accurate information using ChatGPT. This thing will lie to you. It will happily tell you incorrect information, and it won’t know it did it. This is not a magic bullet! Please be careful! Do not trust it with your life, for example in regards to medication, or other high risk situations! Please keep this in mind!

@KaraLG84 @talon I wish more people would really think about this. Nobody raising the alarm about the current AI hype is suggesting that large language models and other machine learning tech can't be useful. What we're saying is that these are not silver bullets, and the potential harms aren't that they'll become sentient and take over the world. They're real-world happenings that effect actual people right now.

SCOTUS, like all branches of govt, is a tool of the wealthy, exploited to maintain and build their wealth and power.

Friday’s 6-3 decision against Biden’s limited student loan bailout is a case in point: SCOTUS essentially rescued wealthy banks by forcing struggling youth, saddled with tens of thousands of dollars of usurious debt that could keep them in poverty well into their middle age years, to remain impoverished and tied to miserable, low-paying jobs in order to pay back every penny of their student loans, plus interest worth far more than the original debt itself.

This is yet another assault by the Ruling Class in their war against the working and middle classes.

I grew up in a very Conservative Fundamentalist Household. I remember my Dad giving these Apocalyptic style warnings about what would happen if Liberals, Queers, and Feminists were allowed to run things. Now I spend a lot of time in a space run by Liberals, Queers, and Feminists and I have to say, It’s pretty freaking nice here.

That being said, no place is a Utopia, people are people. The cost of keeping safe spaces safe is vigilance.

I could make a list here, and tell you my opinion about what makes this place, a good place, but I would like to hear from all of you. What do you love about Fedi? What do we need to do to keep it a nice place? What could we do better? What do you think the future holds for the Fediverse?

For all the jokes about queer wrath month following queer pride month (tbh it’s summer, I was hoping for queer sloth month!), really I think we’re still at the stage of disability wrath more than we are at disability pride.

Maybe it’s hard to access pride when there’s still so much lacking, so much failing, so many people isolated and believing the worst of themselves because they get that message everywhere every day. Wrath feels like an earlier stage than pride!

The Supreme Court ruled in favor of a web designer who had never actually designed a website, for a man who was not LGBTQ and didn’t even know his name was involved in a Supreme Court case, for a wedding that never existed, and a solicitation that was completely manufactured by a group of far right lawyers, I guess so they could make discrimination legal. A very legitimate court.
