It’s really depressing sometimes that a perfect cautionary tale 1984 was written and Handmaid’s Tale was written and even Fahrenheit 451 was written about destroying books but in the end they just ban those books from existence with the stroke of a pen.

I dunno, I don’t begrudge anyone their choices about how to social media, but I’m just done with providing free beta testing and Thought Leadership to another commercial service to help them reach exponential growth.

If the service matures and cross-federation is possible I’ll enjoy following good people on Bluesky or wherever. I’m just gonna sit out the part where I’m acting as unpaid QA.

@SarahBreau @delong LLMs don’t abstract; humans have to classify the training set for them. That this was done by underpaid people in the third world has been one of the reasons to suppose the corporate actors pushing LLMs are perhaps not a value of ethically reliable the rest of us ought to be OK with.

There’s a shedload of harm happening now. It’s happening because greed is a sin, not because of some spectral possibility of an inhuman intelligence.
