When the right says "we need to do something about mental illness" what they mean is what happened to Jordan Neely.

When they mention that Jordan was suffering from mental illness listen to the tone. Listen to how, like him being homeless it's a justification for ... murder.

I live in the south Bronx. I've seen some very loud, 'erratic,' belligerent even, baseball fans, drunk, peeing on our sidewalks-- why aren't they on the "just kill em for being annoying" list too?

Six Months In: Thoughts On The Current Post-Twitter Diaspora Options by Mike MasnickMike Masnick (techdirt.com)
Today is six months since Elon took over Twitter and began this bizarre speedrun of the content moderation learning curve in which he seems to repeatedly… not learn a damn thing. Over and over again he makes ridiculous choices that have made the entire platform less welcoming for speech, more willing to obey government demands, […]

The Oregon GOP Walked Out… Because the Bill Summaries Are Too Hard To Read? by Jay Kuo (The Status Kuo)
It’s Friday, and I’m up early at a conference on the West Coast without a lot of time to explore a big in-depth story before the sessions begin. But a quirky one out of Oregon caught my eye this morning that felt like a perfect Friday piece. It made me both snortle and shake my head in a mix of disbelief and exasperation.

@themadcodger @markrprior @maegul @atomicpoet I keep seeing people recommending PWA as a solution for the lack of mobile apps for the non-Mastodon ActivityPub platforms. And I don’t get it. Those people really must have a thing for pain, because every PWA I’ve tried can most charitably be described as “janky”. Doesn’t feel natural, doesn’t deal with being offline and generally just awkward.

@gr0k @atomicpoet @gruber Bluesky only seems simpler just now as there’s only one app and one server. The whole reason for developing AT was it would be federated, but “better” than ActivityPub by allowing truly nomadic user accounts. Of course the nomadic accounts don’t exist, so maybe they’ll never enable federation and just be a centralised Twitter replacement. Then their absence of actual moderation will come to bite them.

“Social media overall feels like when I used to go out four nights a week and drink Miller Lite until 3 am: It was cheap and fun and probably created a huge part of my personality, but, yeah, I’m too old to be doing that shit again.”

@codinghorror I really hope the GOP starts pushing anti-porn laws, because Dems would win in a landslide in 2024.

When I was in high school, my church had a big Spiritual Growth Workshop at a large Orlando hotel. At the end of the 4-day conference the hotel manager informed our organizer that, as a group, we had broken their record for pay-per-view porn by a pretty wide margin. We broke a porn record in Florida. Do you know how hard that is? (Some pun intended)

@treehousedarren @FreakyFwoof I don't think you need to be on mastodon.social in order for the correct spelling of Mastodon to matter. Aside from the official domain names hosting, Mastodon is correct and will get you to the thing you're trying to find out about/join, mastadon is not. So while I won't set my hair on fire over it, I will definitely correct someone's spelling to ensure they get the correct thing.
