@Orinks @ppatel @wiljames Also, in the U.S., the Earn It Act's back in congress again, which also has narley "save the children!" theater in it, so yeah if I'm Open AI's legal department, I'm telling them just to avoid that kind of stuff completely, thereby avoiding the associated risk.

@ppatel @Orinks @wiljames To add to this, Open AI wants GPT to be able to be used in places other than the U.S. Like the UK. Whose online safety bill has passed I believe, Which has some pretty narley "save the children!" type stuff in it and carries some hefty fines for violations.This is about liability, not naked censorship.

@bryansmart @simon @matt @cordova5029 What I'm saying is I don't think it's an either/or between allow or enable bad behavior, or abuse children and then leave it to survival of the fittest. Sure, you can achieve results through abuse and get the social behaviors you want. But once those kids grow up, they'll either resent you for it, or worse, pass it on to the next generation of blind people they come into contact with

@bryansmart @simon @matt @cordova5029 I'm not saying allow for excuses or anything like that. But there's a difference between firm which is necessary, or strict which is also sometimes necessary, and harsh. You can be effective without being harsh. NFB leadership, with all the shit they've been sweeping under the rug, is what happens when you take the last generation raised in that environment and put them in power.

@bryansmart @simon @matt @cordova5029 I mean, we can all lament the fact that blind schools changed, in some ways for the worse, but part of the reason that happened is because of the extracurricular activities going on there.

@bryansmart @simon @matt @cordova5029 You can teach blind children how to socialize with people in the sighted world without implementing some sort of harsh punishment scheme. I think there are definitely aspects of older blindness education that should have been kept, but I don't think that means we should just bring it all back either.
