The real reason that online-only conferences won’t be allowed to work is because the argument about whether or not online-only conferences can work is a convenient proxy battle for the people who believe their subsidized-travel job perk is more important than the accessibility of their field and the health and safety of its marginalized participants, and who _really_ want to avoid saying so out loud.

Me filling in a grading form 10 years ago: enters text into PDF, save and submit

Me filling in a grading form today: opens PDF into Adobe Acrobat, all bullet points are now on the far left hand side, two areas for signatures are greyed out with radiation symbols. I click on a drop down menu to select the specialization, the lights flicker and turn off, a subsonic whoomph is heard in the distance, car alarms plaintively start bleeping-

The climate deniers who claim that climate scientists are in it for the grant money should be forced to write and submit 10 grants.gov proposals as punishment.

When you listen to The Verge’s podcast and they’re legitimately saying Mastodon is a “no girls allowed” club? And we don’t want Facebook here because Instagram will bring women here?!

What the fuck is wrong with these American tech pundits? Mastodon is the gayest, transest, most feminine social network I’ve ever seen. There are so many more outspoken, smart, odd, and downright weird women here than I’ve ever seen on any other social network. It’s fucking great.

Abled academics when disabled academics ask for accessibility: “We can’t. We’ve always done it this way. That would be cheating.”

I wish I were a politician so I could get money from all over the place for grid-locking the system and blaming the coworkers I hate for not accomplishing anything.

Years ago, I was at a web development conference talking with a friend and some people and this dude interrupted us to complain about how terrible it is that buildings can’t be renovated without making them accessible. I was afraid to disagree because he’s a republican, was carrying and we were in Florida, and so we just walked away from the conversation as he was ranting.

I keep thinking about that when I read about Reddit right now.

A Pinky & Brain spin-off for grown ups that always starts with them sitting tired at coffee in the morning:

Pinky: “What are we going to do tonight?”
Brain: “Same thing we do every night. Try to go to bed early”

And then the whole episode is just about how stuff comes up and prevents them from going to bed early.
