Wishing an easy fast to those who are fasting. (Remember, for the rest of us it’s a mitzvah to eat.)

Very simply, the response about Threads from @Gargron is impossibly naive. It assumes good faith interactions with a company that routinely demonstrates, and often flaunts it’s lack of ethics. There is no universe in which Mastodon gets Threads content for free. Either they’re going to find a way to monetize Mastodons userbase or they’re not going to implement interoperability.

Me: ChatGPT, explain – in the style of a Musk Mini-Me techbro “edgelord” – how if I don’t see something it doesn’t actually exist.

I’m a cranky old-web person but I’m just genuinely fucking mystified that the reaction to either Jack’s or Zuck’s new corporate social media landgrab isn’t a loud unanimous laughing “no, get fucked”. Twitter and Facebook were a warning, not an instruction manual.

Threads doesn’t load in Firefox (or the EU, for that matter) and is mostly app-only because it maximises privacy invasion. The algorithmic timeline and lack of accessibility exemplify that it puts profit over people. Why trust the company that made Facebook?

“What if an AI got hyper-focused on making paperclips and destroyed us all?” asked the insufferable nerd, as corporations whose only directive is “make stock price go up” utterly destroyed the conditions favourable for human life

i like how “illegal in the EU” means it probably violated a human right and “illegal in florida” means it probably is a human right

Whatever kind of day you are having, I am pretty sure this 19s clip of: “Man sneezes into his trombone during concert” will improve it.

For decades, right-wingers told us same-sex marriage would lead to a war on Christianity.
7 years after marriage equality, the consequences have been so boring that Republicans literally had to make up a case where they imagined they were victimized to justify more bigotry.

@charvor @bryansmart @Faylen @gocu54 @FreakyFwoof The next revolution's been iminent for decades now at least. It's kind of like the rapture, except other people pay the price every time there's an oopsie. Much pro, very life.

@charvor @bryansmart @FreakyFwoof Honestly I'm to the point where I wish self-styled 2a advocates would just cut to the chase and admit they find mass shootings an acceptable price to pay in order to keep their unfettered access to guns and lots of ammo. I've heard all the talking points, and I'm tired of the bullshit, and fuck thoughts and prayers. Especially the Republican ones.

People against child marriage restrictions say they will infringe on religious liberty. 86% of children who are married are girls. So, let’s be clear: if you want this, fuck your religious liberty. #Democracy https://19thnews.org/2023/07/explaining-child-marriage-laws-united-states/?utm_source=werd.io&utm_campaign=mastodon&utm_channel=mastodon
