Slack was pretty much out of the question.

Yeah I did the same thing back in 2021, but with half the RAM. The machine up and quit by the fall of 2024. I just got something with 16 GB 3 months ago but spent a year with an 8GB notebook because it was either that or don't workk, and let me tell you it was a real struggle running anything modern on that machine. It's still not awesome on this one but it's workable.

This right here is why I'm currently running on 8GB of RAM instead of my prefered 32. And I really need the vibe coders to learn memory management, to say nothing of the professional developers.
