@vol4life8657 Yes. RAM is expensive now.

@FreakyFwoof @mikedoise Yeah I know but we have two rigs we need to replace so that's going to take some time.

@mikedoise Downloading. Thanks!

@FreakyFwoof They're Elektron, and they use the new Edge rendering engine like all other apps for Windows.

@FreakyFwoof Yes they are.

@mikedoise I'm not sure this little notebook would handle it. It chokes on Spotify and Whatsapp, to say nothing of the two running together.

@mikedoise I forgot about Audio Quake.

And yes, a lot of them went to Bluesky and Threads. Which is frankly a good thing, Mastodon is bad enough on its own and getting worse.

Which is why I'm following you and you keep making it past my semi-regular purges.

We tried that. It was the early days of Mastodon before the great Twitter migration.

Your situation sounds like you're managing a team, and I'd say that has some different components. I think the general rule still applies though, and part of uncovering things is charging what you're worth and not offering discounts. Especially now. Because the client who tells you something to the effect of "I could code this much cheaper with ChatGPT" is telling on themselves.

Yeah. That dev is incorrect and should not be telling a junior dev *any* of that. Setting them up for failure in future.

And as long as you're up front about that for this project what you're looking for is someone to do the work you don't have time for, there's no problem. What I'm talking about is the client who wants the expert because they're thinking "my thing is awesome and so it deserves the best", only to then turn around and want to be the expert and treat the expert they've hired as the code monkey. What I'm saying is you need to, as the developer or designer who cares about the end-user, learn to spot that quickly because those are projects you don't want to get involved in.
