Naturally, sighted people can just allow Siri to set the event on the wrong day and correct it later manually, but this is not an option for the visually disabled.

*sigh* Okay. Figures. Just keep on telling people that all blind people can do with their iPhone is talk to Siri. So tiring and insulting. Like yes this bug is important. Yes it should be fixed. But blind people have got to be able to use VoiceOver if Siri doesn’t work, or breaks, or can’t read your voicemail, or whatever Apple does to it.

In 1997, Jorn Barger coined the term “web-log” to describe his website “Robot Wisdom,” where he logged his journeys around this exciting new digital space called “the web.” Two years later, @peterme shortened “web-blog” to “#blog“:

Is there an organized group in Florida that is submitting book removals for any all books containing girls playing with dolls and other cis behaviors, any mention of hetero-parental relationships, and all mentions of white-on-white friendships? There should be.

If you can’t talk about gender, sex, or race, that should apply to ALL talk of these topics, not just the topics “mothers of liberty” (or whatever that fascist group’s name is) disagree with.

“Here’s Why Human Sex Is Not Binary

Ova don’t make a woman, and sperm don’t make a man

(…) when someone (…) argues that legal and social policy should be “rooted in properties of bodies,” they are not really talking about gametes and sex biology. They are arguing for a specific political, and discriminatory, definition of what is “natural” and “right” for humans based on a false representation of biology. Over the past few centuries this process of misrepresentation of biology was, and still is, used to deny women rights and to justify legal and societal misogyny and inequity, to justify slavery, racialization, racism and to enforce multiple forms of discrimination and bias. Today dishonest ascriptions of what biology is are being deployed to restrict women’s bodily autonomy, target LGBTQIA+ individuals broadly and, most recently, attack the rights of transexual and transgender people.”

The best takedown of Elon’s plan to let publishers charge per-story you’ll read.

Joshua Benton at Nieman Lab, summing up Elon barging in to two decades of conversation about media micropayments. (emphasis mine):

> Nearly all news sites will let a random web user read a story (or two, or five) for free. It’s only after a given number of clicks that the wall goes up.
> If you want to think of that as “news sites already offer micropayments for those first five articles — they’ve just set the price at $0,” be my guest. And for those times when someone really wants to read just one article, that free allotment allows all the paywall workarounds that the savvy digital news consumer knows about. (We’re all adults here; we can talk about incognito windows.) If most paywalls aren’t that hard, there’s little pressure for a paid product to get around them on a single story.

If your experience of the Fediverse is that it’s just like Twitter in how much antisemitism you experience, that’s why I founded Babka and Babka Social, because that was my experience too.

Just having federation doesn’t make it safe for Jews online.

Babka makes a deliberate and focused effort to address antisemitism. It takes continuous hard work and dedication by myself, my staff, and the incredible volunteers who make Babka operate.
