Hi, human chattel slavery was objectively bad by every moral metric available to humankind and the version practiced in the American South was peculiarly violent and odious and maintained by virulent rich pieces of shit who used the Bible to justify it, so, if you’re a teacher in #Florida and you could now get fired for suggesting this because pantswetting racist scum run your state, just drop a link to this post somewhere your kids can see it.

It’s super frustrating that this Stanford study finding CSAM on top 25 Mastodon servers doesn’t specify WHICH servers they found it on: https://doi.org/10.25740/vb515nd6874

The study recommends integrating proprietary technological tools like PhotoDNA (which would involve running all images uploaded to participating servers through Microsoft cloud services), but knowing WHERE those images were found would let moderators defederate from those servers NOW.

While many complain about life in general and the cost of living etc, I am sitting on a sofa that costs £8000, lovely and cool in front of an air-con unit costing £3500, watching the latest film on a 70″ smart TV that costs £5000.
Right now, I’m happy, with no worries and not a care in the world.
Not even the employees at the department store who keep asking me to leave can spoil my day…..

A periodic reminder that while most fediverse services are provided for free, they are far from free to run. Many thanks to all who donate and support your instance. If you are in a position to do so, I encourage you to take a look at your instance’s “about” page for details on how to donate (for example, https://infosec.exchange/about)

Some instances do require a fee to join – I personally feel strongly that everyone should be able to participate, regardless of ability to pay and I will do all I can to make sure these resources are available to those in the community who want to use them.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

19 states are requesting women’s medical records to see if they have traveled to get an abortion or for any contraception or gender surgical procedure. WTF? What happened to medical privacy? When it was for covid info, records were blocked, giving the unvaccinated permission to spread disease. But your most personal info is okay because you are a woman, so therefore, property of the state you live in?

Breaking news: The Justice Department has published a notice of proposed rulemaking under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This rule will provide a technical standard that state and local governments would have to follow to meet their web #a11y obligations.

It will only apply to public websites, but is an important step in achieving digital equality and could lay the foundation for private business web #accessibility rules in the future.

Briefly interrupting my hiatus to report that Sen. Markey and Rep. Eshoo have reintroduced the Communications, Video, and Technology Accessibility Act (CVTA), which would substantially build out the Communications Act’s provisions for technology #accessibility.

Really proud of the contributions my student attorneys and I made on behalf of our client, TDI. This is my last week wearing my clinic director hat, and this is a great note to go out on. Rooting for its passage!

I will never get over the insanity of people who believe that “Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child” means you should beat your children.

The rod in question is a Shepherd’s Crook, it was used to gently pull lambs and sheep away from danger. The statement was meant to encourage protection and instruction. No decent Shepherd would beat an animal with it, let alone a child.

Dude. In AWS’s certification materials they use a cafe to represent an EC2 instance, and without any trace of self-awareness go on to say “When you need instances—or baristas—you just click a button and you have them. And when you don’t need them, another click! And they go away.”

Like if I were Amazon, I wouldn’t want to be reminding folks how easily Amazon treats humans like disposable cups, but 🤷🏻‍♀️.
