@Pawpower @amy0223 @Bruce_Toews I should note that just because abortion is permitted doesn't mean that there aren't Jewish orgs working on things like ensuring that women have the ability to chose to have the child if the only thing in the way is, say, can't afford it, or can't get supplies. So it's not that it's preferred or anything. So for example, it's not that the concept of what crisis centers are supposed to be doing that's the problem, it's the deception involved and/or the coersion.

@Pawpower @amy0223 @Bruce_Toews By way of example, the abortion bans. They screw over any Jews living in those states, Orthodox or not, because they make no religious exceptions at a minimum. Not that abortion is a form of birth control or anything, but it's absolutely permitted under even the strictest interpretations of Jewish law and in some cases recommended and in still rarer cases required because mother's life takes precedence There was a statement from the Orthodox Union after the Dobs decision about how they couldn't support a ban over this. I'll have to dig it up.

@amy0223 @Bruce_Toews @lynnskyi I'll also add that this is bad for members of the majority religion who for whatever reason don't follow the state-preferred line, different denomination or whatever.

@amy0223 @Bruce_Toews @lynnskyi I don't know if there are any countries that have an official state religion which also meet all of Bruce's criteria, but I do know that if you're going to have a society with people living under a plurality of belief systems or none at all, you can't have a state religion that is actually enforced. It always ends up going badly for anyone who is not part of the majority religion, and this includes doing things like making precepts of the majority religion part of the law of the land so to speak.
