For me at least, it isn't that they're unequivocally bad. It's that they're being marketed and consumed as the ultimate silver bullet for everything, and there are enough people who want to believe this that they're now being shoehorned into places they have no business being at this point. They're a tool like anything else, and if the right ethical guardrails and management of expectations were in place, we'd be having discussions about whether or not they're the right tool for any given job instead of having to suffer through the cult of "AI is an unalloyed good in every circumstance why aren't you on the train yet?"
