@Pawpower Oh man I hope this gets straightened out because I'm sure it's incredibly frustrating.

@fosterp55 Twitter has made changes to its API that, at best, make any third-party client, like Spring, unreliable. If you're getting that error it's likely the client has just been outright blocked at this point.

@andrearennick @chris This is the thing that's annoying me about the current debate, specifically the pro-Meta side. I get that on a per-instance level, some are going to federate while others not. But the pro-federation side seems to be completely ignoring that the communities pre-emptively blocking have absolutely valid concerns. @ericmann There's already an existing AP plugin, but it doesn't federate comments. It will however bring responses back in. Might be worth at least looking at that one to see how it can be improved upon. But in the end more AP implementation plugins are good. God knows we have enough slider plugins.

@Kataphract No problem. I kind of posted my original post without thinking and then went off to do other stuff/get some sleep lol.

@Kataphract Yeah there's stuff like that I think but I don't have any names offhand as I'm just waking up. Can I look it up and get back to you on that?

@Kataphract I don't think anyone's done that at scale, because to do it correctly someone would need to also add support for some other protocols to cover projects like Hometown and Gnu Social. But devs are talking about essentially an ActivyPub client that just handles everything, like Friendica and Peertube and Funkwhale ETC instead of just a Mastodon app.

@Kataphract And, if, for example, there's a feature you really miss that Mastodon doesn't have, you can move to something that does have it and keep your followers/followings. For example, quote posts. Half my damn social graph is not-Mastodon. And I think Pixelfed has implemented import from Instagram although I haven't tested it yet since I don't do much Instagram.

@Kataphract Things might display a little differently, but because they're all using the same protocol, in this case ActivityPub, they can all communicate back and forth.

@Kataphract From your Mastodon instance's website, (not sure which client you're using), you can search for a user or a magazine, or drop a URL of a post from same, and reply or like or boost or follow. Once you've followed a user or magazine you'll get their posts in your home timeline and you can interact from there.
