@objectinspace @changeling @SingingNala This is another one I love. People are like "Add full text search!" and I'm like "Do you guys realize how expensive that is from a technical standpoint? You want to be able to search all the text across thousands plus of servers and you still want things to be fast and all that?"

@changeling @objectinspace @SingingNala On the other hand, I'm watching all these people come over here and quite literally beg for the stuff they complain about all the time on Twitter or Facebook, so there's that.

@SingingNala @objectinspace Because you can't have a smooth onboarding process unless you deal with the instance question. Lots of new users, rightly or wrongly, find that to be a huge friction point, and because discovery without a recommendation engine is incredibly difficult, you're left with promote one server or other. And since the Mastodon devs run two large instances, those are the ones they're going to go with.

@summersun704 If you're going to add jalapenos, use a fresh one, not the pickled ones in the jar. John usually leaves that out because that would make it too spicy for me, but the original recipe calls for jalapenos.

@summersun704 Regular 10-oz, unless you like a lot of tomatoes onions and chilis. There's the original and there's also a more spicy one.

@summersun704 Once it comes to a boil, switch to low and leave the lid partially off when you're doing all this so it doesn't boil over. Also, brown ground beef first.

@dangero That could possibly work, but I think the elephant in the room in all the criticism of the Mastodon project just pointing people at mastodon.social is that discovery without recommendation engines is very very difficult to implement, let alone get right. Also, just because I think your idea's ultimately bad doesn't mean you shouldn't continue to throw stuff at the wall to see what resonates and what doesn't.

@dangero Not sure there's even an API endpoint for just the about page. And there would need to be, along with a way to block everything but that endpoint, in order for this to work. Right now the AI blocking methods are pretty blunt force, fia the robots.txt file.
