I'd like to think that people are people on this two. But this isn't the first time the blind community has thrown a fit when asked to pay above whatever token price they initially paid for some app, and it's always the same stuff that essentially comes down to "that's not how any of this works and you keep expecting the world to accommodate this worldview and it's still not going to do that".

I'm sure there are a few, but probably not nearly as many.

@GamingWithEars @sapphireangel Yes and I would like a pony. But that's just not how any of this works. Prices are what they are and if someone has a problem with the price then don't pay the price. But don't constantly bitch about it. Which is all this community seems to do every single time it doesn't get its way.

@treehousedarren If you're this worked up about it just don't pay for the subscription, but no one owes the blind community constant accommodation of its general and willful ignorance of economics, markets, the costs associated with running a business including profitability, ETC. None of this is about a bargain, it's about a contract which is subject to change.

@Pawpower This must be related to that accessibility discussion I'm catching up on where someone said that those of us who expect things to be accessible are entitled or something.

OK fine, so don't pay for it. But honestly if they're doing anything to maintain that code, and they are, that's a recurring cost. Tapping into most APIs is also a recurring cost. Plus developers deserve to get paid just like everyone else for ongoing work, and this whole thing where "they should only get paid if they're writing code I approve of" is bullshit. And it constantly comes up every time blind people are asked to adapt to a changing app landscape.

@treehousedarren You don't get to use your phone in offline mode, and for those who continue to use Office 2007 and say security is no big deal, Windows is fast moving towards what is essentially online mode. And this doesn't even get into platform changes that have nothing to do with security nonetheless prompting app changes. Plus that whole thing about how developers deserve to be paid for their labor just like everyone else.

@treehousedarren The problem with "Everybody's been using this for years" at what was never a sustainable price point is that eventually if you want the app to survive than the pricing and pricing model have to change.

I think the problem is the price for the subscription. I understand it from the developer's point of view and am personally not mad about it, but if you're using Apple Music or similar as your guide, it's kind of sticker shock.

@NaturaArtisMagistra He's capable of doing the right thing in the same way a broken clock is capable of telling time correctly twice a day. I suspect this is more virtue signaling than anything else on his part, mostly because this is Abbot.
