@amy0223 @wesderby @SingingNala Moderation ultimately isn't a problem with a technological solution. I mean there are technological things you can use to get the job done, but if you don't get the social bit right it'll fail. Also, modera tion is impossible to do well at scale, so if you can try to keep the community small, or have enough moderators to handle specific channels, or one moderator for every 10 or 20 people. +

@TRodick93 Basically crazy API pricing, to the extent that the developer of Apollo would literally have to pay millions of dollars per year to keep the app running. And the CEO is apparently intent on burning it down despite the protest, which is why Lemmy and KBin and to a lesser extent Mastodon are seeing a huge uptick in traffic/users. Well Mastodon may be seeing some due to Elon toying around with the idea of removing the block button from Twitter.

@blindndangerous Not sure if you knew about this, and if you did you can just shitcan my reply, but on here you can hide boosts from specific users or from everybody. Open the user's profile, click the menu button, then tab to the "hide boosts from" button. Visually menu is an icon of 3 dots. Hope this helps.

@ppatel @weirdwriter Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm telling people not to use alternatives. I'm just saying that it won't be as frictionless as people might want and that there are some significant hurtles that still need to be overcome.

@ppatel @weirdwriter It allows you to export some data, namely your library of books with some basic data about said library. You'll run into issues though during import when books cannot be found.

@jasontucker I think both of these things can be true: This will be very useful for people with ALS or similar, and also people are going to do very bad things with this and Apple needs to prepare for that accordingly.

@weirdwriter That's going to have a lot more friction, mostly because Goodreads via Amazon controls the largest database of book info and they don't allow third parties to access that very easily if at all. Someone will need to hook up to the Internet Archive's database or something for the kind of migration you're looking for to work.
