Is it groovy that #Microsoft has such an engaged #accessibility team? Yup. Is it a downer that they continue to post on a platform that fired its entire accessibility team and killed off the third-party accessibility tools, while ignoring this one? Hell yup. So if you missed it, here’s their #GAAD blog post. https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2023/05/18/global-accessibility-awareness-day-generative-ai/

President Biden cites facts that white supremacy terror is America’s greatest domestic security threat—and MAGAs lose their minds. Here’s the thing. I’m Muslim. I don’t feel attacked when people condemn the Taliban because Taliban do not represent Muslims and I proudly take the lead in condemning Taliban terrorism. If you’re MAGA white and feel personally attacked when Biden condemns white supremacy terror—you are absolutely telling on yourself.

My husband just read me a story that showed up in his feed that went something like this: A teacher asked her class who liked Trump. The children knew she liked Trump, so they all raised their hands, except one student. Teacher: “Why don’t you like Trump?” Student: “I am a Democrat.” Teacher: “Why?” Student: “Because my mom is a Democrat and my Dad is a Democrat.” Teacher: "What would you do if your mom was stupid and your dad was mean?” Student: “I would be a Trump supporter.” 😂

I’ve been working with a Signal developer to improve the #accessibility of the desktop app, and I think it’s getting to a usable state (at least on Windows). There are sounds for chats in the current window now, and messages are list items (and also articles) so they can be reached easily. There are also a few keyboard shortcuts to jump to the oldest unread message, jump to the composer, and navigate to various sections of the app. I’ll be addressing some of the remaining issues, such as the chatty conversation windows and the fact you can tab to every single message in the history. If anyone has feedback on #screenreader accessibility of the current beta, I can pass it along. I haven’t tested it on MacOS or Linux yet. The beta is here: https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007318471-Signal-Beta

Alright, this is priceless – this is why we say that the #Fediverse is magical!

So, @kraft who works at Automattic (creator of WordPress) pops in to check out #Calckey. We start a chat about how they have a “Share to Mastodon” button, but that doesn’t cover the richness of platforms in the Fediverse. Bam, less than 12 hours later, Automattic are officially discussing how they could implement a “Share to the Fediverse” button, connecting the rest of the platforms potentially to hundreds of millions of websites using WordPress.

Is that something, or what?
