As #indictments loom against #DonaldTrump for willful violations of the Espionage Act and attempting to overthrow the republic, let's try to remember that, for millions of Americans, he provided a loud, if unnuanced, voice articulating their heartfelt concerns that they felt had long gone unheard, and those concerns were "why doesn't everyone think exactly like me?" and "not enough people hate the people I feel need to be hated" and "miscegenation of the races is leading to a loss of proper American identity" and "being a stupid, venal piece of shit who has never bothered to feel empathy or learn anything about the country or government one seeks to rule with an iron fist is virtuous" and those people being sad is good because they are awful fucking people who wittingly did and continue to do their utmost to make the country a vastly shittier, meaner place.

When people complain that ubiquitous smartphone and earphone use in public places is isolating us from each other, what I hear is, “HEY! YOU, STRANGER WHO DOESN’T KNOW ME! I’M MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE! PAY ATTENTION TO ME!” My time and attention doesn’t become part of the commons just because I happen to be passing through the commons. (Bringing this up apropos of nothing, including of any major product announcements that may or may not have been made this week.)

More predictions from the guy who said Elon Musk would save Twitter RT @jack@twitter.com There are only three truly censorship resistant technologies at scale today: tor, bitcoin, and nostr. All are currently niche…showing most of the world doesn’t actually care about censorship. Granted, these technologies aren’t yet accessible or easy to use. But…they will be! 🐦🔗: /jack/status/1666076985242836993

The ultimate grift of #longtermism, of course, is that its proponents want you to focus on some abstract future *waves hands* grand problem/grand solution, and ignore the ones right in front of us today, because they are profiting handsomely by exacerbating today’s problems. Some religious organizations also work this way. They are all grifts as well. #TESCREAL
