In the past day I have listened to men explain: what a security deposit is, how renting works, how to brush teeth, and how temperature works. Honestly it must be tiring living life with the crushing weight of believing if you don’t explain how air works everyone around you will die. Such unsung heroes walk among us.

My wish is for every single future trans person to be able to accept themselves without ever having to first reach that sorry state of “fuck it, it's either this or death, so just fuck everything”. The passage through that point of pain is so pointless. We deserve to start out from a place of joy.

Yesterday, on Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days for Jews, Trump made it clear, again, that he is an out-loud antisemite. His giant megaphone means that he has, once again, put a target on the back of American Jews. And evidently, the GOP & half of our country is just fine with that. I usually ignore him, but this has shaken & angered me. We are already dealing with threats to synagogues on a daily basis. Now this?

I absolutely abhor that with every study that proves universal basic income works (how many studies does it take before it’s actually implemented universally?) there’s the qualifier “homeless people didn’t spend as much money on booze and drugs as we thought”. So condescending. We don’t scrutinize rich people this way. There’s the assumption that rich people deserve that choice because the money belongs to them. Poor people have to answer to some arbitrary social expectation of acceptable behaviour before they are “allowed” to be housed, fed, clothed, etc. It shouldn’t matter how basic universal income is spent. The whole point is that we all get the choice and the possibility to live a comfortable life. It’s not up to any of us to decide what comfort looks like for anyone. Some people don’t fit social expectations and it’s apparently not ok only when they are poor.
