Why an ads plugin concerns me is that paid ads come with a LOT of expectations around analytics and “engagement”. Which means that any instance running an ads plugin would explicitly be harvesting data from the rest of the fediverse to sell to the ad company.

Which is hostile and horrible behaviour, and to me means that federating with that instance is dangerous.

Congratulations to Mick Curren and @jcsteh for being featured in the upcoming episode of Australian Story. It’s a very well deserved recognition for the two of them and the project they founded, which has led to the democratization of screen reading technology for many #blind people via NVDA, giving us free and unencumbered access to the Windows operating system. Also congrats to the @NVAccess@fosstodon.social Project.
