@remixman If we ever get to a point where the U.S. government is going to use NVDA, it'll likely be similar to how other open source projects are used, like Drupal or WordPress. And in those situations, stuff from the official repos is not allowed. Any code is provided by the agency contracted to do the work implementing for relevant parts of the government, and there will always be parts like DOD where this is just not happening.
@acarson @remixman I’m glad there are safeguards in place for the scripters. I have seen much less security around JAWS in both employment and academia in the UK. People just assume it’s part of a screen reader so its harmless.
@cachondo @remixman Oh this is government. Employment and academia can varry widely.
@cachondo @acarson @remixman can confirm. attitudes to JAWS I’ve seen in the UK are either: install it its a screen reader its perfectly fine. or: This will never touch our network you have to battle with the literal fucking CEO before we’ll approve it and god help you if it breaks/needs custom scripts or upgrades. Nothing in between
@cachondo @remixman Employment that isn’t banks or what we commonly call enterprise I mean.
@acarson @cachondo @remixman I will say that one employer even gave me local admin rights because I told him JAWS needed them to properly access the off screen model and render it. That was a great few years hahahaa.
@bermudianbrit @cachondo @remixman Oh I completely believe both of you.
@bermudianbrit @cachondo @remixman Yes I’ve pulled that same trick myself. Made life a lot more fun.
