@gocu54 @lunarwolf_howls It has to do with the way clients retrieve posts, so is more of a technical thing and not so much a respect thing. I still think clients should retrieve assuming filters are in place, because people use social media differently than they used to consume news. The assumption back when newspapers came from vending machines or newsstands was that you needed to convince the buyer to buy the newspaper, and thus a lot of work went into writing headlines. Also, social media is an always-on thing, and especially with Mastodon it's really important people get to have a say in what they see from the people they follow. Thus filters and content warnings, although content warnings require everyone to essentially cooperate on guidelines and that doesn't work out, so filters as a last resort.

@gocu54 @lunarwolf_howls Also, just because you have to live in the real world doesn't mean you're obligated to go through the grief reminders presented by cat posts. Or anything else for that matter. Social media was never intended to be the real world. It's intended, or at least it used to be, as a place for people to be social with each other.

@fireborn @cachondo @CallumStoneman God I miss netbooks. They were perfect for lite computer use that didn't involve work but involved lots of internet radio and movie watching and otherwise funtime things. Nothing since then has matched them and I've looked.
