@gocu54 @lunarwolf_howls It has to do with the way clients retrieve posts, so is more of a technical thing and not so much a respect thing. I still think clients should retrieve assuming filters are in place, because people use social media differently than they used to consume news. The assumption back when newspapers came from vending machines or newsstands was that you needed to convince the buyer to buy the newspaper, and thus a lot of work went into writing headlines. Also, social media is an always-on thing, and especially with Mastodon it's really important people get to have a say in what they see from the people they follow. Thus filters and content warnings, although content warnings require everyone to essentially cooperate on guidelines and that doesn't work out, so filters as a last resort.
