No you're not the only one. That works well on Twitter, but Mastodon has never supported this, so it's going to look weird unless/until Mastodon decides to actually implement the quoting feature. And no I don't want to rehash the somewhat regular rehashing of for and against quoting on Mastodon.

@acarson I agree. All I’ll say is, if they’re going to implement it, great, then let other apps implement it. If they’re not going to implement it, people shouldn’t use it. Just my personal opinion.
