James Dean (tweesecake.social)@serrebi It could be a cover-up, or it could just be that the company is choosing to just not get involved and/or feed any drama for something that at the end of the day is likely going to turn out to be a he-said-she-said that nobody can do anything about practically speaking.

It's just that either way we slice it, there's a he-said-she-said element, and also, even if the company speaks up in an official capacity, it's fair to ask why they accepted help in the form of rendering services without any sort of documentation or pay terms/schedule or anything like that.
