So I just read through this, and yeah those theme files are hot garbage. Who thought any of this was a good idea?

@acarson I think, more and more, that that’s the problem. No one is thinking of the big picture of this at all. If @pluralistic ever wanted to a study on “enshittification” in FOSS, WordPress would be a perfect example. The whole project seems geared to just pulling back as much of the pie as it can for Automattic and its target market of folks who are looking for alternatives to Wix and Squarespace and similar.
@acarson I should clarify that I think no one is looking at the bigger development experience. We see it not just with CSS and themes but so much of the current direction of the project in general. @pluralistic
