Yeah same. I had a heatpump for something like a decade. They are, to put it mildly, not cheap to use. By any stretch.

Doing my best to avoid campus spaces while also avoiding the bad actors who care more about scoring political points than they do about any kind of antisemitism. I live a couple blocks from Penn State.

I mention bad actors because I spent a lot of time living in the south of the US and witnessed/experienced a lot of rightwing antisemitism while also witnessing rightwingers making almost the same excuses some leftwingers are also making for leftwing antisemitism right now.

I think you should drop in without telling them and then bask in the awkward silence that will inevitably follow. Of course I'd prefer that they get it together and stop making assumptions, but as long as they're going to make assumptions and you don't get the accommodations you need I think any resultant schadenfreude resulting from their embarrassment is fair game.
