“I’m having more ‘rational Republicans’ coming up to me and saying, ‘I just don’t know how long I can stay in this party,’” said Sen. Murkowski (R-AK). “[...] no one is taking us seriously anymore." I absolutely do not trust anyone on the Fediverse who claims to be progressive and interested in social justice yet can’t be bothered to add #AltText to the images or videos in their toots. If they don’t see disabled people as important, who else do they not care about?
If you have a condition that makes it difficult for you to compose and add AlText to images, you can ask for help by including the #AltTextForMe (or #AltText4Me) hashtag and someone will help you.
I just spoke with my specialty pharmacy who handles my biologics, and they told me that the shipping carrier who handles my (refrigerated) injections may be fixing to strike on 1 August. So if you live in the US, and take medications that required shipment/refrigeration, you may want to speak to the pharmacy about refilling before the strike date so you don’t have a gap of time without meds.
Long hsot, but here goes.
When reviewing a large diff in #GitHub (I’m talking about several dozen files with a few thousand changed lines) the UI shows only the first 4 files. To view more, you have to scroll the page. Fine for mouse users, but I can’t find a way to accomplish this from the keyboard. So now I can’t do part of my job, and of course this isn’t documented anywhere. Tips welcome.
Just a friendly and quick reminder. If you care about your posts on social media, and don’t want to treat them as ephemeral, make a backup of them.
Anything you make and post, if you care for it, keep it yourself if you can.
It doesn’t matter what social media it is, either. If somebody else is hosting it for you, it can’t hurt to keep a copy yourself. Hell even if you’re hosting it yourself, backups can never hurt.
And Then Satan Said:
We are going to separate into breakout groups of five people, after 8 min. each group will present what they discussed in the main group.
Republicans say that the Republicans on the Supreme Court are at the most guilty of not filling out paperwork properly — which is no big deal at all, except when Republicans use it as an excuse to take health insurance away from millions of poor families.
In case anyone thinks that the way U.S. politicians handle sex scandals is worse today than it was in the past…

@Rachel_Thorn Thanks for that edit! :ms_blue_heart:
Another good resource is imagecaptionspls@a.gup.pe (not tagging it to avoid spam). It’s both for people who can’t describe their images, and for those of us who can’t see to ask for descriptions when we’re curious.
It used to be super active when it was on gup.pe, but since switching to a.gup.pe useage has fallen. Since the group boosts all posts it’s tagged in it’s way better at spreading things around than hashtags are, so it’d be lovely to see it used more.
But yeah, so many resources for the people that need them, which are usually also the ones that absolutely would write media descriptions if they could! Meanwhile there’s perfectly abled people whining because they have to take a couple minutes out of their day to be kind rather than having AI poorly do it for them. Sigh.
Logging #accessibility bugs can be an exhausting, time-consuming process that’s often not adequately appreciated. Wouldn’t it be awesome if one of our consumer orgs put together some sort of accessibility bug bounty that would make it all worth more people’s effort and time?
FreeDV seems to be yet another #AmateurRadio #HamRadio software project that has been designed to exclude blind and other disabled hams from participation. It is shameful #ARDC is willing to grant money to projects that harm a segment of the amateur radio community. #accessibility
I got bored and ran the script of a scam call I got through Eleven Labs. Then I got more bored and ran it through @shaysters ‘s cloned voice. Then I got more bored, started playing with the settings, and… it… did this.

Republicans are moving ahead with plans for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to testify before a Judiciary subpanel after he falsely claimed Covid-19 was “ethnically targeted.” (RKF was not, as he claims, misunderstood. He is a anti-Semitic conspiracy theorist and his appearance at a GOP hearing just demonstrates how specious the hearing is.) https://www.politico.com/minutes/congress/07-17-2023/jordan-gop-rfk-covid/

.@housepanther I have, and I like the idea, but still have concerns about where it's going to get a book info database after I did the goodreads import and there were several books it couldn't find. A book info database is some thing we'll need to figure out since Amazon essentially controls that at the moment.
In reply to
.@housepanther I get that, but I can't figure out how to manually add book info that isn't already in the DB. This could be a pebcak error though.

.@bruce_toews @technolass I agree with Bruce here. There's also the possibility that, as president of the chapter/org, you're in a position to make change that others cannot, so saying something about this man's behavior could do some good. But also it's not a simple thing to deal with either and I get that.
